"I don't think of specific actors when writing, but maybe I more or less unconsciously imagined Fabrice Luchini in the role of Didier. He had been interested in "More" at the planning stage, but ultimately never came on board, so we had some catching up to do! The screenplay wasn't altered when he joined us—he already liked the dialog as written. He knew it by heart, including the other actors' lines! I think it's often a mistake to direct actors, although it can be important with unexperienced actors who need to be coaxed into reactions that are not always so obvious. But here I didn't have much to do—Fabrice is an outstanding actor whose strong personality doesn't prevent him from sharing things with other actors, on a number of levels. He's very demanding, but also has a lot of fun, fun that I totally shared!"
