This film's point of departure is an entirely accidental encounter between a man, who acted in a film thirty years ago, and another man, a filmmaker, who loves this film called Mes petites amoureuses by Jean Eustache. Their encounter takes place in Narbonne, the region where the film was shot. The filmmaker, the youngest of the two men, then starts making a kind of documentary about the making of Mes petites amoureuses. Hilaire, who had performed in the film, comes back to accompany the filmmaker and to pick up the traces of the film shoot. He attempts to reconstruct the group he and his friends formed, which Eustache decided to observe and film all those years ago.
