Sergei is an Evenk, the nomadic reindeer breeders who live in the mountains of Oriental Siberia. When he is turns 16, Sergei is named guardian of the great herd of the Batagai clan.
This clan, whose chief is none other than his father, is composed of four families and their herd of 3000 reindeer that they drive from one mountain pasture to another, according to the seasons. In this vast landscape, wolves prowl and constantly threaten the reindeer, the Evenks only source of wealth and pride.
Right from an early age, Sergei has learnt to hunt and kill wolves. He's never had any qualms about this, but his encounter with a she-wolf and her four adorable wolf cubs challenges all his convictions and causes his life to change radically.
To protect "his" wolves, Sergei transgresses the age-old traditions of his people, and thus betrays his father and clan. With the insouciance of youth, Sergei defies taboos: the teenager and his wolf cubs mutually tame each other. For the sake of love, he shares this secret with beautiful Nastazia.
What he hasn't taken into account is that the wolf retains its predator instinct.
