In the extreme southern Sahara, in Niger, live the Toubou people. The life of these nomadic bergers in this harsh desert obeys simple and immutable rituals. The men are camel drivers and the women stay at home. But each year, everything changes for the Toubou women with the departure of the caravan. From the oldest to the youngest, the women of the tribe undertake a 4-month journey more than 900 miles long across the Sahara, putting up with heat, sand and sandstorms, to go and pick dates and sell them in the "city." Despite fatigue and numerous dangers, for these women, this epic journey is also a period of freedom and the key to their economic independence.
