In New Zealand, Charles Doumeng, a hugely wealthy French businessman, learns he has an incurable illness. The news turns his life upside down. In his sixties, without a wife or children, or an heir, and with only a few weeks to live, he sets out to find his sister, who he hasn't seen for fifty years. In Mauprivez, a small village in the Nantes region, Corinne, a notary's clerk, comes across the advertisement Charles has written in an effort to find his sister. The reward is enormous and thirty-five-year-old Corinne badly needs money. She sets out to find this stranger, and when she fails to do so, decides, with the help of her friends, to create a made-to-measure family for Charles. The hoax goes fantastically well. At the other end of the world, Charles is thrilled, happy to have at last found some heirs. But life has some surprises in store and good news always comes in pairs... Charles learns that he has been misdiagnosed. He was never sick! Overjoyed, he decides to come to France to meet his new family. The trouble is about to begin...
