The first edition of the TAAF (organized by The Association of Japanese Animations and the City of Tokyo) took place from March 20 through 23, 2014.
In the wake of its constant presence since 2002 within the Tokyo International Anime Fair, the Tokyo Anime Award Festival is henceforth established as a separate event, thereby becoming the major animation festival in Japan.
Michel Ocelot, the guest of honor at this first edition, presented his latest film Kirikou and the Men and Women, which opened the festival.
Three French films were among the five final competition titles.
Minuscule: Valley of the Lost Ants by Thomas Szabo and Hélène Giraud, who traveled to Tokyo for the event.

Ernest & Celestine by Stéphane Aubier, Vincent Patar, and Benjamin Renner.
Several short French films were also presented in competition: The Spring by Jérôme Boulbès, Betty's Blues by Rémi Vandenitte, and Women's Letters by Augusto Zanovello, which won the Grand Prix of the Short Film Competition.
