After her film 「ママたち」 won the 2016 Short Film Jury Award for International Fiction at the mythical Sundance Film Festival and then went on to tour the world, this year the French film director received a Global Filmmaking Award for the screenplay of her first feature Mignonnes.
The worldwide career of 「ママたち」, the first short film by Maïmouna Doucouré, produced by Bien ou Bien Productions, and which tells the painful story of a young girl confronted by her father's polygamy, is like a fairy tale. It was selected for over a hundred international festivals, including such prestigious events as Toronto (Short Cuts Award for Best Film), and Sundance (Short Film Jury Award: International Fiction, see her speech upon receiving the award). The film then went on to be nominated for Best Short Film at the Césars 2017. This film phenomenon has been one of the greatest French short film successes of recent years.
Sundance 2017, which wrapped on January 24, 2017, again recognized Doucouré's talents by giving her a Global Filmmaking Award, "in recognition and support of emerging independent filmmakers from around the world, on the basis of their screenplay," for her debut feature project Mignonnes.
The young film director represented France, among the four filmmakers selected from around the world, to receive this prestigious award.
