The film by Eric Summer and Eric Warin has now established itself as the most successful French animated film of all time across the Atlantic, according to UniFrance statistics.
After six weeks in US theaters, Leap!, formerly released as Ballerina and distributed by The Weinstein Company, has taken $21 million at the box office (around €17.6 million), representing 2.49 million spectators. This Franco-Canadian co-production's excellent results have it now ranked as the most successful French animated film of all time in the USA, according to UniFrance records, ahead of Igor (MGM, 2008, $19.5 million and 2.71 million admissions) and Arthur and the Invisibles (The Weinstein Company, 2007, $15.1 million, 2.2 million admissions).
This film held its ground in the US Top 10 for one month, and was given its biggest release combination in its second week, when it upped to 2,705 screens.
Leap! has achieved an impressive run in international markets, winning acclaim from millions of movie-goers, including 1.34 million in 中国 (Huaxia), 1.19 million in スペイン (A Contracorriente Films), 1.16 million in ロシア (VolgaFilm), and 1.03 million in メキシコ (Corazón Films). Its performance in the United States has allowed it to cruise past the $100 million threshold in international ticket sales (including France)!
