After a dashing debut, "Taxi 2" has proved a smash hit with Hungarian audiences, with 171,000 spectators flocking to theaters in 10 days.(03/16/01)
Breaking all the records for admissions to French films after 10 days on the screens, "Taxi 2" will go down in history as the film that scored the second best opening day performance ever in Hungary - behind "Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace".
Even if it is already clear that this second opus has pulled in more spectators in Hungary than its predecessor (which ended its run with an impressive 262,000 admissions to its credit), only time will tell if "Taxi 2" will succeed in ousting the two most-seen French films of the last decade, "The Fifth Element" (390,000 admissions) and "Asterix and Obelix versus Caesar" (368,000 admissions).
