The 25th Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television Genie Awards (the Canadian equivalent to the French Cesar Awards) were announced on Monday, March 21, in Toronto.
And the big winner is… a majority French production, "The Triplets of Belleville" by Sylvain Chomet, voted Best Film of the Year, thanks, of course, to the Canadian participation in this co-production (Paul Cadieux, Production Champion). This is the first time that an animated film has won Canada's most prestigious film industry award.
Released in Quebec December 19 by Alliance Atlantis Vivafilm, "The Triplets of Belleville" has attracted over 85,000 spectators, ranking as 3rd best performer for French films released in Canada in 2004.
