“Brotherhood of the Wolf”, which came out November 23 in a 320-screen release, is a smash hit at the Italian box office, raking in 800,000 admissions in only three weeks.
This fall has yet again been an auspicious period for French film releases in Italy. 01 Distribution – Rai’s new distribution company – privileged “Belphéghor” and “Brotherhood of the Wolf” with audacious launches that such major performers deserve. Out in a 160-print release, the first has garnered more than 400,000 admissions, while the second has been seen by 800,000 people up until now. “The Closet”, distributed by Filmauro, has also made a healthy impact with 500,000 admissions. “Kandahar”, a French coproduction, is phenomenal success with our latin neighbors: more than 750,000 moviegoers have seen the film, which is now heading for the million admissions mark. Last but not least, “The Lady and the Duke”, with its 160,000 spectators, is also enjoying a fine career.
Not that it will stop there for the films are still out on release, but the scores already achieved augur well for excellent final results by French films in Italy for 2001. Upcoming releases at the beginning of 2002 include “Vidocq” (distributed by Medusa) and “Amelie” (Bim). What better way to start the year!
