For the 11th consecutive year, from April 19 through 22, Unifrance will host the Budapest French Film Festival – and will then take it touring to six provincial Hungarian cities.
The selection Over four days, five Hungarian distributors supporting French films will present preview screenings of a selection of eight films they have already bought and have slated for release: 13 Tzameti by Gela Babluani, La Doublure (The Valet) by Francis Veber, L’ Entente cordiale by Vincent de Brus, Le Héros de la famille (Family Hero by Thierry Klifa, Mes copines by Sylvie Ayme, Quelques jours en septembre (A Few Days in September) by Santiago Amigorena, La Science des reves (The Science of Sleep by Michel Gondry, and Transylvania by Tony Gatlif. All the films will be released in the weeks following the event.
An artistic delegation will travel to Hungary for the occasion, in order to promote their films with local media and spectators.
A popular festival After a year larded with French film releases (2 per month on average throughout 2006), 2007 promises to be a dazzling year. The diversity and presence of French films out on release, underlined by the popularity of the festival, has struck a chord with Hungarian spectators: each year, between 0.5 and 1 million tickets to French films are sold.
The presence of fifty or so journalists at the press conference, which took place April 5, testifies to the interest this event generates, boosted, it is true, by a preview screening of Taxi 4. The film’s director, Gérard Krawczyk, was present for the event. Early box office figures for the film are among the best tallied in the past 12 months in Hungary.
