Bet
あらすじ
Bernard, a teacher in the suburbs, lives with Victoria in a new urban development. Didier, a wealthy Parisian pharmacist, is married to Muriel. One drives a rusty 205, the other, a black Mercedes. They are brothers-in-law, and hate each others' guts. Over dinner, Didier and Bernard make a bet: to stop smoking for a fortnight, until the next family get-together. The gauntlet is down, their hell begins... The first days go off like a dream, both are on top of the world. Addicted no more! But things quickly turn sour. Didier and Bernard find it harder and harder to resist the temptation. They become irritable, suspicious, they lie... Until the fateful day: the family get-together. They've kept their word, but relations between them and their wives are at an all time low... Despite this, they are both determined to remain non- smokers. Will they succeed? At what price? And for how long?

"In general, when doing films, we first discuss the basic idea and then overlay the comic scenes: so the gags come pretty quickly. With regard to the pacing, we like each scene to slot naturally into the other. It would seem wooden if we tried to calculate everything.
