I Don't Want to Sleep Alone
あらすじ
Kuala Lumpur. A homeless man, Hsiao Kang, is attacked one night in the street. His attackers steal everything he has and leave him for dead. Bangladeshi workers find him and take him home to the abandoned building in which they live. He is looked after by Rawang, who takes care of him on an old mattress that he’s found. Rawang watches over him, feeds and washes him with devotion mixed with desire. Chyi, a waitress in a coffee shop, also falls under Hsiao Kang’s spell. She too looks after a sick person: her boss’ son, who is in a coma. Chyi doesn’t like the life she leads. She lives in a miserable shack and sleeps clasping her pillow against her. Her frustration is made worse by the fact that she and Hsiao Kang can’t manage to find a quiet place to make love.
Kang, who until then had nothing and dreams of living in total liberty, becomes an object desired by all. Chyi and Rawang want him for themselves alone, and even Chyi’s boss feels an irrepressible desire for this man who bears such a resemblance to her inert and bed-ridden son.
Meanwhile, a thick fog inexorably spreads over Kuala Lumpur… In this suffocating, humid and dirty smog, bodies cough and sweat. Gagged behind their improvised masks, women and men try to find themselves and each other.
