After 15 years away, Captain Fred Carel, from the Central Office for the Fight against Environmental and Public Health Offences, returns to the small town in Provence where he grew up.
Together with Sara, his former high school friend who is now a lieutenant in the local gendarmerie, he must investigate the death of Antoine Bernier, who was killed by dozens of bee stings to which he was allergic.
It could have been just a sad accident in this beekeeping region, but several suspicious elements catch Fred and Sara's attention. They all point to Chloé, Anaïs and Géraldine Portal, three generations of women from a prominent local family.
First, there is the trafficking of beehives that has been rampant for several months and has put beekeepers – including the Portals – on edge.
Above all, there is the identity of the victim: 15 years ago, Antoine Bernier was one of the only survivors of a tragic bus accident that claimed the lives of almost the entire local junior football team. Louise, Anaïs and Géraldine Portal lost their father, husband and son respectively in the accident.
Fred Carel was also on that bus. And he owes his life to Antoine Bernier.
Will Sara be able to help Fred finally overcome his trauma and reveal the truth?
