Alice Minville is a nurse in Canada. She is on tour in the far north when her mother, Suzanne, dies in a car accident. By the time she hears the news, four days have passed and the body has been transferred to France on the advice of Suzanne's husband. But Suzanne lost her husband, Alice's father, 22 years earlier in a fire! Without further ado, Alice travels to France to attend her mother's funeral and find out who this stranger is who has been posing as her father. But when she arrives with her boyfriend, who has travelled with her, Alice discovers that not only is her father not dead, but that a woman is posing as her to him.
