Jean Mercier, mayor of the ghost town of Bezonvaux, is found murdered.
The investigation is entrusted to Clara Merisi, captain of the criminal police at the Nancy SRPJ.
On site, she is assisted by the Verdun gendarmerie, as well as François Gilbert, a forensic anthropologist and historian working at the Douaumont ossuary.
A few days later, it is Gilbert who unearths the body of a woman near the crime scene, whose death certainly did not occur during the Great War, but rather in the 1980s.
