Director Raoul Peck (I Am Not Your Negro, Lumumba) shares the story behind his documentary Ernest Cole, Lost and Found, now in cinemas across Germany.
The documentary sheds light on Ernest Cole — the first Black freelance photographer in apartheid South Africa — whose powerful images exposed the brutal reality of the regime. Forced into exile, Cole sought freedom in the US, only to face new forms of disillusionment.
In 2017, 60,000 of his lost negatives were uncovered in a Swedish bank vault. Through Peck’s lens, his legacy returns to the world. 📷
