Rebecca Marder on The Stranger (dir. François Ozon)
Rebecca Marder on stepping into The Stranger, and approaching a character shaped by distance, silence, and ambiguity.
In colonial Algeria, Meursault lives with a quiet detachment from the world around him. After his mother’s death, a series of events leads him to commit an irreversible act, one that will put not only his crime, but his very way of being, on trial.
Directed by François Ozon and adapted from Albert Camus' The Stranger, the film is now in theatres in Italy, and opening in the UK tomorrow, April 10.
