Director Princia Car speaks about desire, power dynamics, and reclaiming narratives too often told through the male gaze in her film The Girls We Want (Les Filles désir).
Set in a Marseille summer, the film follows Omar and his friends, respected youth leaders in their neighborhood, whose views on love, sex, and gender are shaken by the return of Carmen, an old friend and former sex worker.
Presented at Directors’ Fortnight at Cannes 2025 and premiering in French theatres today.
