The Filmets de Badalona festival honors France at its 39th edition.
Badalona, the third biggest city in Catalonia, organized the 39th edition of the Filmets ("little film" in Catalonian), running from November 8 through to 17, 2013, and welcomed France as its guest country this year. A special French Cinema program was curated in the context of this homage.
The International Competition consisted of 37 programs, among which 43 short French films were competing for the 14 prizes offered by the festival. Winning films receive a broadcast contract with Canal 33, Catalonia's TV3 channel.
The festival also hosted a market from November 11 through 15, during which all the selected films were made available for viewing to professionals attending the event.
The festival's organization is handled by a young, dynamic and closely-knit team, who work year-round promoting and distributing international short films throughout Catalonia. Televisión Badalona, the local television station, also broadcasts all the films in the Official Competition.
The festival is a huge success in the city, boasting full houses at every session (including morning sessions) at the festival's two venues. Thanks to the major support of regional media, FILMETS represents an important vector for the distribution of international short films in Catalonia. It is an event to keep track of in the future.
