AFI FEST is one of the few major festivals held in the United States that offers free film screenings to the public. Devoted to international auteur cinema, AFI FEST is accredited by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) as qualifying for the Oscars. It functions in partnership with the AFM, which is one of the world's biggest film markets, held in nearby Santa Monica, November 2-9, 2016.
Several film selections will offer audiences the possibility of seeing a large number of French (co-)productions, which will be accompanied by a delegation of French artists that includes Bertrand Bonello, Houda Benyamina, Gaspard Ulliel, Philippe Grandrieux, and Raoul Peck. Raoul Peck will also lead a master class as part of the World Cinema Masters in Conversation event.
Isabelle Huppert: guest of honor
The French actress is one of the festival's special guests this year, with a Tribute organized in her honor and a meeting with audiences, as well as a gala presentation of Elle, which is the film submitted by France for the 2017 Oscars.
The festival will also host a world premiere of Miss Sloane, the latest EuropaCorp production starring Jessica Chastain.
