"True, "freedom" is a word that is used much too often and usually inappropriately but, to be honest, I can't think of any word better than that great one to refer to this little film... The achievement of "Augustin" is firstly the result of a experiment in freedom. In other words, in no particular order : a feature film that exceeds short film length by fifty seconds, a fiction that resembles a documentary, a report that reports on nothing but a fictive situation, a comedy number in which the unknown plays the star and the star the sidekick, a short shoot, the start and end of which are separated by several months, unpaid contributions that will end up being paid for (thanks to the CNC, thanks to Canal Plus, thanks to French audiences and foreign buyers), a film that sends its producer to the Cannes Festival for the first time and allows me - something I'm very proud of - to make a success (at least I think so) of my first push on the dolly."
