Augustin works 3 hours, 38 minutes a day and earns 4,500 francs a month, bonuses included. Augustin is happy in his works, processing files on three hundred cases of brain death a year for a small insurance company. Augustin is very respectful towards his superiors and off-hand towards his collcagues. He stammers without knowing it, and hates physical contact. Augustin has complete confidence in his own star quality. He plays small parts in the odd TV serial but can sasily see himself working as an actor with the great masters of Japanese cinema. His life is suddenly thrown into turnoil when he is offered a part in a movie with Thierry Lhermitte. Will he have the modesty to accept it ?

"True, "freedom" is a word that is used much too often and usually inappropriately but, to be honest, I can't think of any word better than that great one to refer to this little film... The achievement of "Augustin" is firstly the result of a experiment in freedom. In other words, in no particular order : a feature film that exceeds short film length by fifty seconds, a fiction that resembles a documentary, a report that reports on nothing but a fictive situation, a comedy number in which the unknown plays the star and the star the sidekick, a short shoot, the start and end of which are separated by several months, unpaid contributions that will end up being paid for (thanks to the CNC, thanks to Canal Plus, thanks to French audiences and foreign buyers), a film that sends its producer to the Cannes Festival for the first time and allows me - something I'm very proud of - to make a success (at least I think so) of my first push on the dolly."
