Every day Rosetta leaves for the front – which means she searches for work, for a job that she finds, loses, finds again, is taken from her, that she gets back. She's obsessed by the fear of vanishing, the shame of being a misfit. She wants a normal life just like everybody else, among everybody else.

In my head, I imagined things. I decided that her mother must have had her very young. And that one day her father just left. So, between an absent father and an alcoholic mother, Rosetta must have lacked warmth and love. Which maybe explains her belly ache and her hair-dryer, that electric heat which eases her pain. Rosetta couldn't give a damn how she looks. She can only think of survival. There's no room for cuteness in her life. Before the shoot, I used to wear make-up a lot. Now I hardly ever wear it. That's what Rosetta did to me.
