StudioCanal has just sold the distribution rights to the film by Bertrand Tavernier for the North American territory to Empire Pictures, the company led by Ed Schwartz and Ed Arentz.
The film is slated for release in the United States in the fall, just after the New York Film Festival.
Empire Pictures is proving an active supporter of French films in 2002, with 5 other films added to its line-up this year: "On Guard" by Philippe de Broca, "The Children of the Century" by Diane Kurys, "Nightcap" by Claude Chabrol, "Cuba Feliz" by Karim Dridi and "God Is Great, I'm Not" ("Dieu Est Grand, Je Suis Toute Petite") by Pascale Bailly.
As for "Laissez-passer," the film looks set to match the fine performances of Tavernier's previous films, having been sold in 20 countries to date including Spain, Great Britain, Italy, the Netherlands, Russia, Argentina, Brazil, Japan and Korea.
The film is to be presented at the upcoming 2nd Seoul French Film Festival as well as the 10th Yokohama French Film Festival.
