あらすじ
"The King of Paris", for the theatre world in 1930, is the illustrious actor Victor Derval. Safely enthroned at the top of the theatre bills, Derval has lorded it over the Paris boulevards for the past ten years and is one of Parisian high society's most courted celebrities. Derval has a son, Paul, who lives in an attic room in his father's house. Paul, aged 20, is tormented soul who views this stranger, his father, with an uneasy mix of fascination and scorn...

About
"At times, life can be subject to what people call chance or fate. Linear progression can suddenly be marked by elements that seem to support your work. I experienced this several times during production of "The king of Paris", most notably when I was looking for a location for the false grave of Paul Derval (Manuel Blanc in the film), that I decided to film in the Montmartre cemetery in Paris. My assistant and I were walking along the numerous pathways of the cemetery when I spotted an area that was ideally suited to my camera angles. Then , as we were heading back towards the cemetery office, I stopped all of a sudden at a neighbouring plot. I can't say why my attention was drawn to it since it was identical to the other graves around. Yet I was stunned to discover the inscription on the grave-stone : Paul Derval, manager of the Folies Bergères... A man with the same name as my character who, like him, belonged to the show-business world at the turn of the century... After that, I wouldn't have changed location for the whole world..."
