あらすじ
World-renowned cellist, Jascha Steg, gets to a point in his life when glory tastes bitter, no longer offering any consolation. During an international tour, he gives a concert in Evian. His parents and uncle take advantage of the occasion to come to hear him play and spend some time together. Everyone rejoices at the reunion, for moments like these have now become altogether too rare. Another reunion is taking place between Lulu Kreutz and her parents. She is Steg's childhood friend and lives in this water city. Jascha also gets together with Anna, a violinist in the orchestra. He loves her… but she's there with her husband. Lulu suggests a mountain picnic where everyone will be reunited. All these folk fond of each other, but who never find the time, will be caught up celebrating an improbable, mad, joyous, marvelous, desperate reunion…

About
All the acid tenderness and acuity of Yasmina Reza, who authored the screenplay, are concentrated here in a text of heart-rending accuracy. The mise-en-scène is clean and the actors impeccably directed in this ensemble piece about loneliness and the ways people devise to overcome it. One look at the cast list gives an idea of the quality of the acting. In a word, they are outstanding and the magic moments in the film are too many to list here. A special mention, though, for the night scenes in the hotel: a perfect balm for wounded hearts.
