あらすじ
Désiré, the well-groomed valet and perfect butler, makes a habit of seducing the ladies of the house. He's a Don Juan, a trifle smooth but without an once of malice, which accounts for his footloose existence; for the ladies are fickle, and so he keeps moving on. Will he be happier in the service of the mistress of Minister Montignac ? Dear me, no. This time it's his turn to fall in love with the lady of easy virtue...

About
"In 1994, I directed Jean-Paul Belmondo in the Feydeau play, "Tailleurs pour dames". It was the first time we had worked together but we shared an old complicity which derived from our love of acting, that portion of childhood preserved, that "child's play for grownups". Jean-Paul Belmondo is a great movie actor but he's first and foremost a great stage actor, one of the rare "actor-players" as defined by Diderot. On screen he achieves the magical blend of "presence" with the stage player's humble, meticulous hard work. This blend breaks down opposition and creates magic. The actor dominates the character and the player submits to it. Belmondo plays - the word is apt - both games at once. He is an instrument of love and energy for the director. Moreover, his love of Sache Guitry is equalled only by his love of the theatre. He carries the film with a grace and ardour that hide all the hard work. Pleasure guided us all the way."
