あらすじ
Joao de Deus spends his days quietly. He divides his time between his job at the Paradis Ice Cream Parlour where, to everyone's satisfaction and delight, he not only carries out his duties as manager, but also invents the house-speciality, the renowned "Paradis" ice-cream; and his home, where he invariably spends his free time alone, either doing the housework or lovingly going through his collection of female, pubic hairs in a treasured album which he calls his Book of Thoughts.

About
"(...) Joao César Monteiro belongs to that group of people who disturb others. He both represents and sees "difference". His true home is elsewhere but this "elsewhere" is close to our everyday lives, just other side of a reality made invisible by banality. (...) Portuguese literature and cinema has tried for a long time to discover the secret of the picaresque vision of the world, so cherished by our Spanish neighbours. (...) Monteiro takes us there with such happiness and ease that we don't even have time to realize the miracle that this represents. (...) All this makes Joao César Monteiro a unique figure in modern Portuguese film. With his pitiless, lucid, disenchanted and prophetic vision, he gives it a dimension of strangeness that it previously lacked."
(Edouardo Lourenço - writer)
