Carl Herickson, an American movie-star, si unwittingly about to disrupt the lives of three Parisians : an influential newspaper editor, Philippe de Morannes, his stage actress mistress Paulette Nanteuil and the couple's best friend, the ambitious young journalist Claudine André.
