About
As soon as I started writing “It Takes All Kinds,” I knew that I was going to direct it, but I tried not to think about it too much because it made me nervous. Jean-Pierre and I started out wanting to write a thriller, but we had trouble working it into the chosen theme, which was about money and honor. I remember that at that point, the only images that came to mind were of American movies. I couldn’t conjure up my own visual imagery. When we began writing, certain images surfaced, certain passages of music that appealed to me, but then I stopped thinking about it. I told myself, first things first! Focus on the writing! When the film finally went into pre-production, although I was scared that I had no technique, I still felt safe knowing that I knew how to direct actors.
Agnès Jaoui, director (from an interview in Unifrance Newsletter No. 22)
