あらすじ
Once upon a time... there lived a poor puppeteer called Geppetto who had no-one in the world save they puppets he lovingly sculpted. Many years previous, he had carved a heart on a tree trunk with his initials entwining those of Leona to whom, out of shyness, he never dared declare his love...

About
"I've always loved the magical dreamy side of fantasy movies. With this genre of film, you have the freedom and the power to create anything you wish, with the only limit, perhaps, being your imagination. From the start, I'd wanted to drop the story of the Blue Fairy because I don't believe in luck and fateful coincidence in life. I think that if you want to achieve something you have to really go for it, no holds barred. The second thing I wanted to change was the importance of the character of Gepetto who is really secondary in the Disney version. In my film, Gepetto is a man like you and me, with his qualities and his failings who is looking for a meaning to life which he will find thanks to Pinocchio. Neither did I want a film which hung on a dramatic edge with all these children who remained donkeys after their transformation. So I decided to make them human again because I think that redemption is always possible. Finding one's true path is crucial in life : either you remain in the "animal state" or you regain your "human condition". I don't think I could have found a more perfect couple to play Gepetto and his wooden puppet than Martin Landau and Jonathan Taylor Thomas. Martin Landau has such great human qualities, his generosity simply glows off the screen. He really is Gepetto."
