About
En 1956, Jacques Demy fue el asistente de Georges Rouquier para “S.O.S. Noronha”. Así trabó amistad con la estrella de la película Jean Marais y es gracias a éste que conoce a Jean Cocteau. Seducido por el entusiasmo del joven cineasta, el poeta le regala una pieza en un acto, “Le bel indiffèrent”, que le deja libre de adaptar a su guisa. La pieza triunfalmente creada por Edith Piaf y Paul Meurisse en 1940 no es nada más que un largo monólogo de una mujer abandonada por un hombre que le niega la menor respuesta. Por no poder repetir a los mismos actores, Jacques Demy le confía el papel de la mujer a una joven actriz desconocida y amiga, Jeanne Allard y a un desconocido rlocalizado por casualidad en la calle, Angelo Bellini.

Sixteen-year-old Diane exists exclusively through her mother's gaze. But this intensely close bond between Diane and her mother, Sophie, is becoming increasingly problematic for the teenager. At high school, she would like to be loved like she is at home and expresses it in an awkward way like when she exchanges a favor for a look, in the toilets. A loudmouth, provocative, and seeking attention, Diane tries to stand apart from her mother and wishes, during a weekend, to live like an adult.
