Only adults believe that children don't think about the world around them, metaphysics or politics. Sometimes, I feel they think harder because they are discovering life and don't accept it as easily as we do. They still believe that everything is possible and that's how Tonin causes turmoil in his world. We often miss the magic and innocence of classic American comedy. Capra's characters, for instance, were often naive and idealistic, confront-ing a world that wasn't made for them. And there was always the joy of seeing them win. I have the feeling that it's nigh on impossible to present an idealistic character in our cynical and disillusioned times since he immediately appears absurd. The only solution is a child character. In that way, you can still confront the ambient melancholy with a humanistic dream. This is what Tonin does. His energy, craftiness and fears cause havoc around him. And he wins. (Jacques Fansten)
