あらすじ
A quiet street in Paris, one summer morning. Pier, a strange kind of man, steps out of La Santé prison after five years inside, during which time he refused all contact with his past. He sleeps for a day, then spends his first night of freedom roaming the streets of Paris alone. Finally, he decides to read the letters his friend Sylvana sent him. They reveal past events that affect where he goes, whom he meets and what he feels. Each one is an instigation to follow his movements and discover with him, via his strange gaze, the characters, neighborhoods, lights and sounds of the city by night.

About
Filming a lot at night changes the relationships between people. I remember various down-and-out people hanging around the set being hired and paid a real wage. Some beautiful things happened and it all filtered through into the poetry of the film. We worked quite long nights, and the rhythm of it lulled me into a kind of pleasant torpor which was ideal for the part. I thought I might be able to do a few other things at the same time, maybe write a script, but I couldn’t get it together. We were in such another world, looking at the stars in a sleepy daze...
