あらすじ
ポール（マチュー・アマル リック）、29歳。高等師範学校で哲学を修めたエリートのはずだが、もう何年も博士論文を出せないまま、講師の座に安住してすでに数年。さらに、相性のよ くない恋人エステル（エマニュエル・ドゥヴォス）と、ズルズルと10年間も交際中。同居している従兄弟のボブ（ティボー・ド・モンタランベール）と彼が現 在つきあっているパトリシア（キアラ・マストロヤンニ）、親友のナタン（エマニュエル・サランジェ）とその恋人シルヴィア（マリアンヌ・ドゥニクール）と いういつものメンバーで食事。エステルは大遅刻。一同はシルヴィアの兄ジャン＝ジャックの家のパーティーに。ポールは彼と同棲しているヴァレリー（ジャン ヌ・バリバール）に出会う。 ポールは二年前、ナタンにシルヴィアを紹介されたときから、彼女にひかれていた。ポールはナタンにかくれてシルヴィアと付き合うが、お互いにナタンへの気 兼ねからなかなか先に進まない。ヴァレリーが彼に電話してきて、自分の論文の指導教官になってほしいという。ナタンの忠告も虚しく、積極的な彼女はどんど ん彼の生活に侵入。春。エステルは国立通訳学校に合格。ポールは彼女と別れるが、エステルはその後も彼に会いたがる。ヴァレリーはポールに本格的に付きま とい、学校の授業に押しかけ、自分は子供の頃父に性的虐待を受けたと告白。ポールは大学に嫌気がさしていたこともあり、辞表を提出して論文に専念。 あるパーティー。ポールはジャン＝ジャックとヴァレリーと同席。気まずい思いをするが、偶然彼女の手帳を盗み読み。その中の日記に、父との近親相姦の話は 嘘だと書かれていた。ポールはヴァレリーと別れた。 ポールは論文に集中し、ついに書き上げてナタンに見せる。感心したナタンは出版を勧め、編集者にシルヴィアを推薦し、シルヴィアとポールは気まずい思い。 一方エステルは久々にポールに会ったが、二人の仲は完全に終わり。ポールはシルヴィアに電話。シルヴィアは私たちはとっくに終わっているが、私に会ったこ とであなたは変わった、という。ポールは初めて、本当の意味で一人前の人間になったと思えた。

About
"We have the impression that our life follow a certain path and that it is made up of a number of episodes that "happen to us" in such a way that we know it is our own particular life in question and not someone else's, enabling us to give a more or less coherent description of it. However, for Paul, that is not at all obvious. He has been giving classes at the University for years now but he still isn't convinced that this is the right job for him. As a storyteller, he can invent lives for others but finds himself unable to describe his own life and neatly order the few events that he thinks have happened to him into a coherent story. Thus, Paul Dedalus has to learn about self-evidence and this process will be violently imposed on him by others - Sylvia, who shows him people can change, Valérie, who tries to annihilate him just as she annihilate Jean-Jacques, and finally Frédéric Rabier, his enemy, who offends him."
